English to Dutch website and blog translation
DEC 13, 2015
Tomedes is regularly asked to undertake website translation in order to support businesses to expand their customer base to include speakers of other languages. A recent client also asked us to translate his blog, which he updates regularly, from English to Dutch, along with the main content of his website.
This was an interesting job for Tomedes. We engaged our best Dutch translator to undertake the work, which included a formal style of language on the main website and then a more informal, chatty style on the blog. The job demonstrated the value of Tomedes’ commitment to always using native translators for the target language – with two very different tones to convert from English to Dutch, anyone other than a native Dutch translation professional would really have struggled to produce the high quality, accurate work that we demand.
For our native Dutch translator, the blog and website didn’t pose a challenge. Having worked as a copywriter as well as a translator during his freelance career, our translator was highly skilled at producing documents in a range of ‘voices’ and tones in order to meet clients’ needs.
The website itself was a fairly small brochure site, which took just under a week to translate. However, the blog posts dated back nearly two years, with the client having written between 500 and 1,000 words almost every week. Undeterred, our translator got to work, keeping the client updated as to his progress at the end of each day. As each post was translated, the client uploaded it to the Dutch version of his website, which was soon packed with decent content that enabled him to reach out to a whole new audience.
