TRANSLATIONFEST II

University of Ferrara, Italy, | 2022-06-06 - 2022-06-07

Intended Audience

The conference is for researchers, students, academics, and practitioners who want to explore the topics of translation and gender.

What Can You Expect?

The Centre for Translating Cultures of the University of Exeter organizes talks, conferences, and other events related to translation and cultural discussions. They have a very broad interpretation of “Translating Cultures” which is why it’s not surprising that they have different types of conferences scheduled. One of the events that they have set for this year is the TRANSLATIONFEST II, Gendering Agency, and Activism in Translation and Interpreting.

The aim of this conference is to provide a venue for discussing the latest trends involving gender and translation around the world today. It will also tackle the effects on other disciplines like Cultural and Media Studies, Sociology, Linguistics, and Literary Criticism. It is maintained by the Centre that there has always been an alliance between translation and gender equality. That alliance has fostered the creation of new studies.

The conference also aims to make the role of the translator more visible than what it is now. For example, translators can help in enabling political and social change around the world. They are also instrumental when it comes to fighting inequality and discrimination. Translation can also help when it comes to building networks of activists from different countries. The conference comes from the premise that translation is a powerful tool that can instigate social change.

Organization

The Colloquium will have a hybrid format as it will be accessible to participants online but it will also be held as an in-person event. The presentations will have 20-minute presentations of the papers followed by 10-minute discussions. The official languages of the presentations will be Spanish and English.
