The 4th East Asian Translation Studies Conference (EATS4)

Paris, France, | 2022-06-30 - 2022-07-02

What Is This Event?

The East Asian Translation studies conference aims to provide a platform for translators, scholars, and interpreters to engage with one another and exchange ideas in an East Asian context.

The first EATS conference was held in June 2014 at the University of East Anglia, UK, where many vibrant discussions were held, not only on theory and history, but also the practice of translation and new trends in the field.

Since then, the EATS annual event has included memorable conferences at Meiji University, Japan, in July 2016, and a conference hosted by Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, Italy, in June 2019, which explored the changing identities of East Asia observed in translation.

What Can You Expect?

Keynote speakers this year will include Anne Cheng, of the College De France, Tejaswini Niranjana, from Ahmedabad University, and Yoko Tawada.

There will also be a roundtable discussion regarding universal values and East Asia through the lens of translation.

Held at Université Paris Cité in France, this conference also aims to initiate meaningful discussions on how universals are handled in translation in the East Asian sphere.

EATS welcomes presentations and participation in discussion by both researchers and practitioners.

With how dynamic and fast-developing the field of East Asian language translation is, this year’s EATS conference is sure to offer attendees a wealth of knowledge and ideas.
