Bringing Language Professionals Back Together
11th and 12th March 2022
What Is The CIOL Conference 2022?
The CIOL (Chartered Institute of Linguists) Conference is a yearly event for language professionals that showcases lectures from preeminent language experts across the world. The CILC is a membership body for language practitioners, and its focus is to support the values of language in society. Attendees in multiple translation services industries attend this conference to get more knowledge in their professions.
After years of virtual meetings, the CIOL is pleased to announce the first physical conference in almost three years will be at the venues St Paul's, London. Once again, language professionals will be face to face, sharing insights and making new connections.
What Can Attendees Expect?
Since the main value of CIOL is to support and educate language professionals worldwide, attendees can expect 14 different lectures on the first day, with a full second day of seasoned professionals sharing their linguistic talents. The first day will begin with Paul Hughes’s keynote “White matter and resilience, linguists have the upper hand,” which discusses how linguists have an advantage when learning any subject.
He discusses how the brain processes learning a language, and how learning changes the brain. The keynote is followed by the first lecture of the day, “Diversifying your work with languages: working as a teacher, translator, and agency manager” (Karine Chevalier-Watts). Watts will discuss her incredibly varied career both as a linguist and educator, and challenges attendees to continue to learn. The last lecture of the day is an inspiring keynote by Baroness Jean Coussins on the bright future of linguists.
The second day begins with “The Business of Interpreting” with Teresa Grau. She offers tips on how to embark on a linguistic career and the specific areas one should consider. 12 other insightful presenters fill the day with tips, experiences, and knowledge on the language industry.
This exciting conference is for educators, translators, interpreters, academics, and anyone in the translation industry. Besides the unique topics discussed, the CIOL conference is an ideal way to network and make international connections. Since it’s the first physical conference in a while, seats will fill up fast.
