What is LocWorldWide46?

This three-day virtual event features a lineup of specialized lectures, intriguing keynote presentations, and the opportunity to meet new professionals and up your language industry game. The theme, “Pushing boundaries,” is about having a conversation about success in the translation and localization industries. It's about pushing boundaries of language, culture, and beliefs to make the world a better place.

What Can Attendees Expect?

Translators, linguists, scientists, and educators, as well as many other industries, are represented in this exciting venue. With the new AI technologies such as machine translation, staying current with the fast-moving trends is vital to stay competitive.

On day one, the first lecture is from Mulumba Lwatula of Industrial Development Industries, with “The Bright Side of Africa: Unlocking Opportunities in a Digitally Connected Africa Through People and Ingenuity.” In it, she discusses the economic growth of Africa and the challenges with the fast-growing continent amid burgeoning technologies. Her lecture mirrors the current technology-driven pace of the language industries and provides attendees with keen insights into good strategies to make the adjustment.

Later in the day, “Closing the Communication Gap: Developing Effective Machine Translation for African Languages” with Filip Němec, discusses the impact of fast translation technologies in a low-resource region of the world. Other speakers of the day feature Ugorji, Nnanna, Debbie Anderson, and Anuoluwapo Aremu, and other topics consist of localization, translation, and software applications in regions of Africa amid its furious growth. Days two and three are full of more dynamic lectures and events.
