Shona language belongs to the Bantu branch under the Niger-Congo family of languages. There are nearly nine million Shona speakers, most of whom reside in Zimbabwe. The Ndau language used in Zimbabwe and Mozambique, and Manyika language used in eastern part of Zimbabwe share some similarities with Shona.

Syllables employed in Shona end in a vowel while consonants belong to the next syllable.All verbs end with 'a'.
