• The written form of Georgian language developed in the middle of 4th century after the Georgian elite converted to Christianity. Through its history Georgian has been written using a variety of scripts. At present the Mkhedruli alphabet is used dominantly. It has 33 letters; another half a dozen or so have become obsolete. The letters do not have a separate capital form like in the English alphabet, however when required they are made to appear capital-like by scaling and positioning regular letters in such a way that vertically their sizes are similar, and rest on a baseline having no descenders.

• A few characteristics of the Georgian language are similar to Slavic languages these include its verbal system. Its grammar varies significantly from other Indo-European languages. 

• In Georgian, prefixes and suffixes are used to form verbs and hence it is known as an agglutinative language. It uses a rich system of word-derivation in which a root can be used to add definite suffixes and prefixes. Even several adjectives and nouns can be derived from roots.

• The language follows a subject-verb-object sentence structure, however this word order is not used strictly like in English. At the same time, all word orders are not accepted. Grammatical genders are not used, pronouns are also neutral in terms of gender, and articles are absent.
