Esperanto is among the most popularly used constructed international auxiliary language. The language was created by L. L. Zamenhof in 1887 to serve as a universal language which could help spread international understanding and peace across the world. Since its creation the Esperanto language has been in continuous use, and has had somewhere between 100,000 to 2 million speakers in the past one hundred years. It also has roughly, a thousand native speakers as well. Though it has not been officially adopted by any country until now, Esperanto has been regularly used in correspondence, world travel, cultural exchange, language instruction, literature, television, radio broadcasting and conventions.

Tomedes has been serving Esperanto translation requirements to and from many languages and for diverse fields through qualified professional translators. We keep adding new language pairs having Esperanto as one component, as well as new domains to fulfill Esperanto translation demands.

  • Since Esperanto is a constructed language it is not related genealogically to any other ethnic language. Lexically, it is predominantly Romanic, morphologically it is intensively agglutinative and also to a certain extent isolating in character.
  • Esperanto’s grammar, phonology, semantics, and vocabulary has been based on western Indo-European languages. Its phonemic inventory and much of its semantics is fundamentally Slavic.
  • The vocabulary of Esperanto language has been mainly derived from Romance languages. Germanic languages have also contributed, but to a lesser extent.
  • Aspects of Esperanto, like pragmatics and others that Zamenhof hadn’t specified in his original documents were shaped under the influence of the native languages of early speakers who were mainly Russian, German, French, and Polish.
  • When it comes to typology, Esperanto uses a free word sequence which is usually subject-verb-object and also uses prepositions. Adjectives are allowed to be placed freely before or after nouns they modify.
  • New Esperanto words can be formed by combining prefixes, roots, and suffixes. Creation of new words is an ongoing process and people can usually create new words as they are speaking, without creating any communication problems.
  • The fundamental Esperanto vocabulary was created by Zamenhof in 1887. His book Lingvo internacia listed 900 roots which could be used to create thousands of words. Later Zamenhof went on to publish the first Esperanto dictionary in which he expanded the original set of roots.
